Does Homeopathy Really Work?
"For those who believe, no proof is necessary. For those who don't believe, no proof is possible."--Stuart Chase
I had a patient who came to see me a long time ago. Lovely man, highly intelligent, grounded, responsible gentleman. He wanted me to help cure his eczema and bring an end to the suffering. What I didn't know at the time, was that he didn't believe in homeopathy, he was embarassed to be in my clinic, and felt he had resorted himself to an ultimate LOW. He didn't really believe it would help but came from a referral.
I picked the curative remedy off the bat. I usually do, I have a 92% accuracy rate. My intuition picks the remedy. After 1 month the condition was 25% better, the next month 50% better, it was obvious you could see it. That's the great thing about skin conditions, you can see the results.
Anyways, he refused to believe he was getting better, it did not matter what I said, it did not matter how his skin looked. He just had a block. He had a belief, and was not willing to part with it.
The only thing I could suggest to him, was to refer him out to another homeopath, out of respect. Then one day he saw a relative he hadn't seen for a while and the relative said: "your skin looks so much better!!".
Only when others said so, did he finally change his belief. But it was too late, I had spent months assuring him he was on the right track, to keep in the game, and to focus on the positive. It was very disheartening for me, and I felt it was time to part ways.
The lesson for me, was to not take any new patients who hold the belief that homeopathy doesn't work. If they are set on that belief they will convince themselves against all evidence to the contrary it doesn't work. Then we end up drained, deflated and unable to help them. Belief is a powerful thing. People do not see life as it is, they see it through the mire of their own state. If people hold the belief they can not be helped, there is a very good chance they will never get the help they need.
Random people reading lesson: If I hear of a patient that hops from one practitioner to the next and NEVER gets better, I already know, they believe they can't get better. And I know not to take the case, until the belief changes, or they are ready to release that belief.
