Fasting: The Once a Week Habit That Cures Disease

I went to Hawaii some years ago, and it was a David Wolfe raw food retreat. I ate next to nothing the entire time because I would rather not eat, than eat raw food all day. I couldn't stomach, salad for breakfast, salad for lunch, salad for snacks, and salad for dinner.

So I fasted mostly, and did some deep breathing. Over time I literally felt the physical imbalances in my body leave. When I returned to Toronto all the imbalances came back.

What is fasting ? When you choose to obstain from eating food for a period of time, and drink only fluids. Traditionally most people fast with water.

We can take the lessons of Hawaii with us, and learn to fast weekly. I would recommend a juice fast and NOT a water fast. Water fast is too hard core, and the detoxing can be too much. Also most people are malnourished and juices provide a wonderful break from the burden of digestion while replenishing the body with vitamins. Start with once a week, then build up to more days as your are able to.

Lately my friend and I juiced with watermelon. We only had watermelon juice for a couple of days. My emotional body felt calmer, my mind felt clearer, and I felt everything starting to come back into balance. 

A long time ago I met a highly evolved man that said if you consistently fast you will eradicate all your illness. I feel this is true.

Some rules for fasting:

1.) Drink only water or juice, coffee, teas or sodas are a NO NO.
2.) Try a 24 hour fast as a start, if you find this to be too much for your body, it is OK to quit prematurely. This isn't an exercise in torture, but rather an experience in liberation
3.) Always break a fast with healthy foods, such as fruit, or a SMALL salad. DO NOT go back to your normal eating regime, like a huge pasta meal, you will feel like hell if you do
4.) Practice deep breathing while on the fast to help liberate the toxins from your body
5.) Do not try and push yourself physically while on a fast, try doing it on a day when you normally rest or relax
6.) Set a goal of once a week, consistency is a great habit to aquire in any endeaver
7.) Choose a fluid that resonates with your body, don't force yourself into anything that does not bring pleasure to the experience
8.) You will notice that something will have to give: if your diet is normally quite poor and you start fasting you will not be able to do both. So at one point a choice will have to be made. You may find that you feel so much better with fasting that the desire to put garbage back into your body is no longer appealing to you.
