Homeopathy: Proving the Remedy
Doctor; since I took your remedy I have been experiencing these odd symptoms that I do not normally have, or never had, can you explain this to me, should I be concerned?
In homeopathy if a remedy is capable of producing a symptom it also capable of curing it. A well proven homeopathic remedy can have at least a hundred symptoms that it is capable of producing, therefore, capable of curing. It is not unsual then that a patient will start to express some of these symptoms. This is called "proving" the symptoms of the remedy.
What does "proving" mean? When a patient expresses the unique symptoms of the remedy, that are mutually exclusive from their own symptoms.
Proving symptoms are usually short lived and mild, and it does not mean that it is the wrong remedy like many people assume. Some people may be so sensitive that they will prove many symptoms of the remedies they take. The most important aspect of the case, is if the overall health is improving for the patient, as a homeopath I do not obsess over short lived mild symptoms.
However if a patient proves the entire state of the remedy, emotional and physical, and not just a few physical symptoms, it may be the incorrect remedy. For example, I took Lachesis (remedy made from snake venom) once, and all day I felt angry, paranoid, jealous, and my throat felt sore and tight. That is because Lachesis is for jelaous, paranoid, manipulative, egocentric people with thyroid problems. If I was that kind of person this remedy would have been curative, but since I am not, I proved it. This state does not match my normal state. If the remedy is curative then patients must match the remedy on all levels. Like cures like is the law of homeopathy.
