Holistic Nutrition: Organic Food Versus Conventional Food

CBC news phoned me the other day to conduct a telephone interview. They wanted to know my professional opinion on a study done in the UK in 2008. This study was performed over a fifty year period comparing various farms growing organic produce and conventional produce.

The study claimed that the nutritional content/value of organic food is the same as conventional food, and that there is no significant health benefits from consuming organic produce. CBC asked me: due to the cost of organic foods being as high as they are, should consumers even bother to spend money on organic produce?

The first thing I mentioned was that we should be careful about making sweeping generalizings about organic or conventional foods across the entire globe based on one study. That is called biasing.  To make a claim based on a study citing " that there is no significant difference in the nurtition content between organic foods and conventional foods " can be accurate.  But to say there are not any health benefits at all for consuming organic foods, in my opinion,  is a gross misinterpretation.  It also depends on a lot of other factors that need to be examined.  Nutrition content is important but it is not the only factor that makes organic foods so appealing to consumers. Infact, its the whole concept that organic foods are far less toxic. Organic foods do not contain the poisons that are found in conventional produce. Organic food  isn't sprayed with insecticides, fungicides, herbicides, that have been proven to be detrimental to the health of the consumer.   It does not surprise me that the nutrition content is the same, our soils in which we grow our food have been mineral deficient for quite sometime, so it isn't an issue of organic or conventional, it is an issue of the quality of our soil. We need to replenish our soils.

There is also the issue of vitality of foods.
For example, it has been proven that organic produce has more vitality in it than conventional produce, more life force, more chi, more stored potential energy within it. I explained to the CBC that the vital force is measured by KIRLIAN  photography, and there have been many studies proving that organic foods contain more vital force.

The price or organic produce being too high is another issue I mentioned.  There are farmers markets around the city of Toronto where the consumer can bring twenty dollars and walk out with a huge bag of fresh groceries and feed their entire family.  There is no TAX on the food,  the food is local, so shipping costs are reduced, and there is no mark up from local supermarkets. In reality, shopping local organic, at the farmers markets is a fraction of the price of conventional. So it is cheaper!
