How to Reduce Cholesterol Naturally Without Drugs
How is high cholesterol defined? High cholesterol or hypercholesterolemia is defined as total cholesterol greater than 200 mg/dL with the high risk category greater than 240 mg/dL. At these levels, particularly when the ratio of LDL to HDL cholesterol is greater than 4:1, risk of cardiovascular disease is significantly increased. The ratio of LDL: HDL should be at least 4:1 because each HDL can pick up and transport 4 LDL back to the liver.
I had a client recently, a 25 year old that had astronomically high cholesterol levels. The doctor said if her cholesterol levels weren’t lowered she was going to be on the drug Lipitor for the rest of her life (insert blood curdling scream), and this is what she wanted to avoid. Lipitor is a cholesterol lowering drug.
It was produced in 1997, by the company Pfizer and is the most profitable drug they have ever made and even has surpassed their wonder drug Viagra. Lipitor is poised to be the most profitable selling drug in history. Lipitor is a statin and comes with a list of possible side effects like many other drugs. Some of these include muscle weakness, pain spasms, and liver dysfunction. So she came to see me, hoping for an answer.
Is There a Natural and Sane Alternative?
Lipitor is actually made from the natural active ingredient, red rice yeast extract. This is the primary ingredient, except the drug companies converted it into this abomination called a “drug”, which is not beneficial for the human body, with nasty side effects. Red rice yeast extract is banned for sale in Canada.
However, only herbalists can legally prescribe it, to health care practitioners like naturopaths and homeopaths such as myself. So this is the loop hole. This is the way to obtain the natural form of the drug Lipitor by going to see a local herbalist, only
then can you get it. Red Rice yeast extract is red fermented rice, and doesn’t have the kind of deadly side effects associated with the statin drugs, and can be taken indefinitely, if needed.
However, it does need to be taken with Co enzyme q10, because it inhibits our body’s natural production of Co q10. There are other powerful natural ways to reduce cholesterol as well; another good supplement is Prickly Pear Cactus which is touted for its cholesterol reducing powers. Supplementing with red rice yeast is a good place to start, in my professional opinion, dietary changes need to take place, the liver needs a good cleaning, and the energetic cause needs to be addressed with Homeopathy, so that nobody has to be dependent on any drug or supplement indefinitely.
